Giardini La Mortella, Ischia: the 2020 autumn music calendar will start on Saturday 5 September

08 Concert Press

After the suspension of the spring-summer 2020 music season, due to the pandemic, the William Walton Foundation is pleased to resume its concert activity, presenting the autumn season of chamber music concerts to the public, under the artistic direction of Lina Tufano. Finally, you will be able to get excited again, get involved and enjoy the beauty of art and music thanks to the interpretations of many young virtuosos, surrounded by the magnificence of the La Mortella Gardens.

The first weekend of concerts is scheduled for Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.
The concerts will continue until the last weekend of October, in a succession of young and very young musical talents. The Giardini La Mortella thus offer its competent and passionate public the opportunity to return to listen to the most interesting new generation of international concerts: winners of some of the most important competitions and musicians already on their way to extraordinary international careers. This year, due to the difficulty of traveling between various countries, most of the musicians who will perform at the Mortella come from prestigious Italian Music Schools, such as the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Stauffer Foundation in Cremona and the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, institutions with which the Walton Foundation has been collaborating for many years.
To inaugurate the 2020 season, Saturday 5 September will be the violin and piano duo formed by the young violinist Lucilla Rose Mariotti and the pianist Luigi Moscatello who will pay homage to the great Beethoven, whose 200th anniversary is commemorated this year, with the performance of one of his most famous sonatas for violin and piano, known as the sonata “A Kreutzer”.
Lovers of solo piano recitals will be able to hear, over the course of the season, some of the most extraordinary piano talents of the moment, such as Giorgio Trione Bartoli, one of the most interesting Italian pianists who attended the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, and Francois -Xavier Poizat, a very talented Swiss pianist, awarded in prestigious international competitions, also a student of Santa Cecilia and who already last year performed at the Mortella with great public success. Ariel Lanyi is the other very young and extraordinary pianist of Israeli origin and residing in London, which the Walton Foundation will present to its audience for the first time. The soprano and piano duo Papenkova-Merkulyeva will offer us an afternoon dedicated to the arias of the Italian and Russian opera repertoire while the piano duo Becker, formed by twin sisters Clara and Marie Becker will perform in a 4-hands piano program. A real pearl for Ischia: in fact it is possible to listen to a repertoire for two pianos only in a few and important halls and theaters in the world due to the difficulty of finding two equal pianos of great quality, such as the two precious Steinway & Sons of the Walton Foundation present in the Recital Hall of the Mortella.
The violin and piano duo Roggia-Natale and Rimonda-Cavalieri complete the autumn calendar of concerts, offering us important compositions ranging from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.
The Walton Foundation, in the difficult situation that the whole world is going through, has considered it essential to commit itself to ensure the conduct of the concert season and allow music and young people to return to perform live and the public to enjoy the pleasure and emotion of find yourself around a stage, albeit in compliance with safety measures, respecting the rules for social distancing, quotas and the necessary precautions to contain the spread of the virus.
Giardini La Mortella wish everyone to enjoy a season of extraordinary music, which is a sign of better times.
Furthermore, between the end of August and the beginning of September at Mortella there are blooms "coming" from all continents: Europe, Americas, Africa, Asia! The rarest pearls of world botany ready to be admired.
