It is the most famous and controversial work, born from the meeting in Oxford with the poet Edith Sitwell. He devoted himself to jazz for a few years and conceived the monumental Concerto for two pianos and orchestra jazz (1924). Departed from the English style of the time and disinterested in the experiments of the Second Viennese School, he wrote a trilogy of concertos for string instruments (1929 for viola, 1938 for violin, cello 1956). The collaboration with Sitwell’s brother occurred in 1931 to the provocative composition of the oratorio Belshazzar's Feast. During the war he devoted himself to music for films and ballets that made him known throughout the world. In 1948 he met Susan in Buenos Aires Grill Passo, whom he married on December 13 of the same year. Arrived in Forio in the early 50s, he was fascinated by the wild and primitive island, Sir William Walton visited the island and finally chose his corner of paradise in Punta Caruso. There between the tranquility of the place and the scents of myrtle acres decided to build his fabulous residence, where he was able to compose beautiful works.
Ischia rewarded the activities of the great composer with the trophy "Onofrio Buonocore" and a concert event held in the Cathedral of the Aragonese Castle (1982.
Sir William Walton died in Ischia on 8 March 1984 and his ashes buried in his mansion, now open to the public thanks to his wife Lady Walton.
