Karl August Mayer

Born in the Rhineland, he studied philology and history and then taught in several German cities. He came to Ischia and spent most of the summer of 1834, he lived in Casamicciola. Mayer is one of the oldest visitors to Ischia, the only one who speaks of the 'ndrezzata, an ancient warrior dance performed with swords still in Barano; Mayer appreciates the charm of the island, wrote in his book that the other islands are only satellites of Ischia.
