He traveled with his family in October of 1827 from Milan to Florence. The following year he went with a felucca Genoa to Naples, then crossed the bay and came to Ischia, arrived at the village of Ischia, where the castle had a profound impression on Cooper, he wrote in his memoirs: "He offered us one scenario that was more like a fantastic picture that the reality of our everyday world".
