October coincides with the end of the summer season. At least according to customs. Is it true? Not for those who like to dive into the sea close to the hot springs of Maronti, between a sauna and another; or dive into pools of warm salty water, in the rocky basins of Sorgeto, even if it rains.

Summer has already begun and Ischia turns bright, sunny colors, enveloping itself with beauty.
The beauty debuts in art, passion, madness, research and tradition, as well as the artists we interviewed have commented.
Beauty is also the form that is transformed, the beauty comes from bellum (Latin for war), and the beauty of which we can make a story and that speaks of shapes that change, as claimed by Luca D'Ambra in the interview with Mirelli.
Beauty is also music, a soul rhythm that touches the soul, as Cristina Balestriere tells us, a natural soul woman.

August?
Too simple to call it the month of transgression. Hot sun and sun bathing bodies, nightlife and frantic parties, spalshes of tropical water; outbursts and amorous escapes, loud music, voices and faces continuosly intersect in meetings and promises; appointments that run up to a nostalgic echo of “summer is ending”.
People live and tell their own story more or less extravagant. And then?

I will only evoke a simple rhyme, apparently trivial, that between May and Way. Because if we think even to the moon, “crescent” in this case, and the shape of a sickle, we can not ignore

“The timeless time”
There are places that I want to tell. Where everyone could get lost without going too far from the so-called “civilization” or what seems like modernity but often is just a facade. There are places full of history that resist the erosion of time and are silent witness a battle against these smartest human enemies. “April” as every year offers its own traditions and from Forio “opens up” the journey on the island of Ischia that fills memory with “related” events to resurrection and rebirth thanks to the secular Announcer Angel’s run on the main street on Easter Sunday. Sensations involving the five senses while we decide to walk along the Botanical Giardini Ravino; with fearless ‘Orlando Furioso’ “revisited” by Eduardo Cocciardo, which will be staged at the Polifunzionale; with places full of priceless treasures but especially those places with people who animate them.

When you think in May, the idea is overwhelming, usually always the same for all the years that summer is at your doorstep. As if only the summer season is important and before there was nothing else. Ischia, in its entirety, but also in this fifth month of the year, has its own characteristic linked to that transition period that the ancients had consecrated to Apollo. Better, more than one. Altogether, as it looks so much to the visitor as attentive to the islanders, they intertwine, walking along roads, paths and paths of the whole territory that in certain respects tells us about itself and traditions with the actions of man. These are acts of will, passion, coming out of the karstic path where they had plunged through the centuries to return, and to slip on the surface. Passion, in fact, becomes medium, form and content.

giugno ischia sito

June is the month that the island of Ischia changes into a real movie set.
The Aragonese Castle becomes so ‘glocal’, an international universe of artists, actors and registers, a film of coexistence, oddities and wonders.
When one comes to the island, wonders how it was in the past illuminated by the still-current sunshine scenes, in which land and magic, nowadays, encourage the exchange of jokes and pastimes in the same way as Hollywood stars.

July welcomes the hot summer with its thousand colors ...
Colors that have been the primary inspiration for artist Bettina Buttgen, who has been able to capture the pure essence extracted from landscapes that only Ischia gives us.
A multifaceted artist, a unique maker of fabrics who seems to be animated, ready to tell how a color really can make a difference.
There are also events in music in July; another important art form in Ischia is in the realm of La Mortella Gardens with a rich musical calendar.

copertina agosto ischia

Ischia lives its hottest and “busy” month of the year. August arrives in Ischia bringing a breath of warmth and novelty!
The island hosts artists, dreams and destinies as described in the article on La Cantina del Mare, a place of open-minded relationships in local traditions. The mind runs to Lacco less than the 60s when it was the living room of the Hollywood jet set.
Ischia also interprets the territory, thanks to Lucia Monti’s skillful oenological observation. Knowing a vine and experimenting with the various declinations is an art that Lucia knows well, Lucia with her enology made of far-sightedness and experimentation teaches us the difference between a well-made wine and a great wine.

This year, nature decided that summer for the island of Ischia had to close before time and unfortunately not in the best way ...
The earthquake that struck our island, in particular Casamicciola, was a demonstration that the power of nature is as wonderful as destructive and lacerating.
The green island, however, continues to shine even after the wounds that have bruised it. Its landscapes continue to shine even under a different light, darker but still alive!

Following the earthquake that has upset Ischia on August 21, 2017, the island and the islanders have a lot of desire to restart, to have a second chance of rebirth.
October closes the summer season with many appointments of solidarity and sense of union, a closing season and one that opens with the prerogative of RESTART!
We start from Urban Sketchers: an association founded with the aim of spreading the educational value and documentation of the design from the fact that in ten years has involved thousands of people all over the world. For the third consecutive year, forty designers from all over the world find themselves in Ischia for the editing of a collective reportage on the island.

Let us not forget the traditions, such as the one on the island that is never missing.
In Cimmentorosso, in the town of Forio, you will find the La Pergola farm. A place for the recovery of traditions and the reverence of table pleasures, from food to good drinking. Here, you can find jams with rare and special tastes and traditional food like the Cacciatora rabbit.

With the new release of IschiaNews 2018 opens a new tourist season, the first after an event that has gray colored our island. But it is precisely from the colors that starts Ischia, the beautiful and lively ones that transmit emotions and feelings.
The colors are what we see in a beautiful picture, like those of Antonio Macrì, who taught us to transfer the results of the vision in color, which were concentrated in a short memory shot, after introjecting an icon, a movement, a familiar or foreign gesture.
On the blue color of the sea we immerse ourselves in the extraordinary world of Aenaria, the mythical city of the sea that has given us hidden treasures. Aenaria from "aenum", metal, therefore. The discovery of an intense metallurgical activity finally explained the origin of the name of the rediscovered city.

Space May

Spring has begun in Ischia, indeed the island has already savored the first warm summer thanks to a temperature that has heated not only the body but also the spirit!
In Ischia you can breathe an air of rebirth and positivity with an almost early summer!

In the May issue we will accompany our tourists to discover the green tuff church of San Ciro, with its clear and fresh water, always a refreshment for foreign travelers during the classic ascents to Epomeo, the water of San Ciro can be drunk, even today, from the fountain placed outside the seventeenth-century church.
From one monument to another, we will rediscover the Aragonese Castle, a mirror, a distant relationship of an island to another island. Those who visit the Castle penetrate with absurd thirst for possession a distant identity, which is enough in its distance.

To spend a holiday in Ischia thus opening the summer season, IschiaNews offers a reading guide in the name of culture and science, from the Masonic Code of Ischia, these days exposed at the entrance of the conference room of the Antoniana Library, which happened in the hands by Lucia Annicelli, director of the Library, that book, strangely untitled and with the sole name of the author on the back: Lucrezio Caro. It was a copy of the translation by Alessandro Marchetti del “De rerum natura” by Lucretius in Florentine volgar.

August has now exploded in Ischia bringing with it the time of summer, the beautiful “season”.
IschiaNews in this month offers its readers a roundup of special stories about Ischia, like the story of the mythical Pagoda, originated from a lake that has now become a port.
It hosted many other parties during the royal stays in the Ischian Delights. The place was pleasant, the nature irrepressible and the proximity to the strategic palace. Like the location, with a complete view of the royal domains. It also survived the reign of the Bourbons, the Pagoda, restored in 1895, even surpassing the passage to the twentieth century and the world war, during which it was impoverished as a fuel depot.

“Summer is ending” ... bringing with it the heat that has warmed the island, giving sunny days and unforgettable baths. However, summer is not just a past memory, its finish indicates that a new season opens with the arrival of new wonderful discoveries such as the cool baths of September, the sparkling air inebriated by the unmistakable scent of the harvest.
It is in September that the island relives with new magic, not only discovering marine environments but also mountainous as explained in the story of the Grand Tour, between sea and lava hills, where Ischia is place of well-being as King Ludwig of Bavaria quoted: Run in Ischia. Far from the noise of life, you will find that peace that has you lost”.

copertina ottobre 2018

October still brings with it the scent of freshly pressed grapes, a harvest that takes away the latest traces of summer.
The latest issue of the Ischia News & Eventi 2018 closes as usual with a story. A story that comes from the past, that one of Buceto and its rare and sweet water, from Fiaiano, surpassing Marecoppo and Monte Trippodi, to Monte Buceto, in the thick chestnut wood where the most precious water is collected, on the island from the largest thermo-mineral basin in Europe. Fresh water, rare water. Water of life. For centuries, before it could come from the sea.

Come on 10!

BY CIRO CENATIEMPO

10 years, wow, what a force! “Ischianews & eventi”, our newspaper is ten years old. Best wishes! Did you know that Ten is the atomic number of the Neon, the famous rare and noble gas used - perhaps not for much longer - for lamps?
Ten is linked to a thousand other evocations, facts and metaphors that will come to mind in a blink of an eye: divine rules and divine soccer players; successes in the report card and lucky numbers. They are all high school numbers. But that very light gas that has Ten in itself, with its reddish tones that characterizes the old-fashioned advertising signs, appears to me the perfect image to describe our commitment.

Giardini La Mortella, a recital of Mother Nature

BY CIRO CENATIEMPO

The Ischian beauty tour that characterizes our newspaper makes a stop at Giardini La Mortella. In May 2004, Briggs & Stratton was considered the most beautiful park in Italy. In 2010, when Lady Susana Gil Paso died, the creator and curator of this tropic-Mediterranean oasis that was declined, linked and conjugated in (and with) all the senses to the music of her composer husband, Sir William Walton, I wrote that with her disappeared “the flower par excellence, the most original, eccentric and elegant”. But the triumphant context remained, the vital impetus towards the future of a magnificent legacy made "of thousands of rare and precious tree species, in the perfect garden as a score".

The shapes of water and love

BY CIRO CENATIEMPO

The principle of “water rarity” has characterized studies on the technical evolution of humanity. It has drawn a boundary - which dates back two centuries ago - between the first and the following mass availability of the most precious liquid that there is. This attention has returned of current interest, as well as to fashion, although in the meantime a shift in meaning has been introduced: from rarity we have moved on to “scarcity”. The Great Thirst, like the plasticization of the oceans, is the contemporary specter that wanders around the planet, while exploring – have a look - the ice of Mars. A subtle disturbance crosses our awareness, and the broader umbrella of (perhaps) the growing struggle against climate change is not enough to avoid it.

Sant'Angelo

BY CIRO CENATIEMPO

I want to tell you three things. The first. Antonio Macrì, an artist from Ischia who died recently, would always put on his cover his works. I did it: there is a 1971 piece of it, ink and watercolor. He portrays his son Pino painting in Sant’Angelo. It’s a game of creative mirrors. In these pages there is another flash of freshness made in the same days on the marina. It is the sublimation of elegant radiance, exclusive grumpiness, summer rarefactions among the dreams of the middle age, the Seventies. Antonio’s brushstrokes, which were exalted in the open air to idealize the beloved island, suggest - as the great ones can do - a world and a way, the vital and progressive moment already completed in the landscape.

Where are you? If you sail off-shore, on board anything you float, a little away from the human affairs, the mission is already completed, in part. Or - and you are part of the majority - you find yourself paralìa, as the Greeks say, to indicate with a single word, delicate and musical, all the rest: beach, coast, marina, coast, shore, shore, shore, beach. If so, the adventure is about to begin. Wherever your temporary and holiday point of gravity is, you’re at the sea, in, above or below, in the middle of the summer of the baths.

Epomeo and surroundings

BY CIRO CENATIEMPO

I took the photo of the Long-eared owl on the cover at the Pietra dell'Acqua, on the south-north direction, between this vital place for the human insular history and the highest point of Mount Epomeo, which stands at 789 meters on the level of the shoreline. I followed the “young gentleman bird” for a few minutes, I captured it in seven images in sequence, upwind and at a distance, then I approached and zac !, he even posed himself on his favorite rock, with - at shoulders - the silhouette of the Blue Island.

Nice and good

BY CIRO CENATIEMPO

To illustrate our work could not miss the contribution of an artist who I appreciate very much, and is among my favorites: Manuel Di Chiara. On the cover (here is another piece of him) there is his version of dolphin fish, phantasmagoric fish of which I speak in the following pages. The dolphin fish triumphs in the autumn sea, and is “nice and good”. Perfect icon. Just like the island we love and tell, in the wake of epochal stories, above all tasty this time; always current. In 1940 Edgar Kupfer-Koberwitz, an intellectual globetrotter born near Wroclaw, wrote a substantial diary entitled “Ischia the forgotten island”.

This month’s cover shows an image of the Nativity present inside the homes of every island family, rebuilt wisely and with passion by hundreds of volunteers who gladden the holiday season, creating a cultural tourist route that embellishes Christmas on the island. The event that best represents Christmas of Ischia is the Nativity of Campagnano. A representation of a rich cultural tradition, made by residents of the village of Campagnano in the town of Ischia, which presents the narrow streets of the village life of the twentieth century on the island of Ischia. The tradition lives on in the most characteristic places of the island, and often the old cellars or country houses become the ideal place, so it happens to Pannoccia village at the foot of Mount Epomeo in the municipality of Forio where for many years revived the traditional feast of the Malvsiello Family in honor of Saint Lucia. We could not talk about our beautiful forests and the many paths that lead to enchanted places of refuge to find balance and serenity! The calendar of events Christmas is full of many small initiatives, all worthy of attention, from Christmas concerts, tastings of typical products, Christmas markets, parties and so much more...

We are at the end of the 2012 season and the third year of the newspaper that continues its journey with Our loyal readers we will meet again in spring. Warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year full of renewal and solidarity.

Alfred Rittmann (1893-1980) , the founder of modern volcanology in Europe to which was dedicated in 1987 by the academic world a mineral group of leuciti, typical of magmatic yellow rocks, called "rittmanite", considered the island of Ischia his "favorite" of all the places on Earth that he had seen and studied. He visited Ischia far and wide, and carefully walk for three years - 1927 to 1930 - and discovered the 'authentic geological nature writing a seminal text on the
“geologia dell’  isola d’ Ischia”. He returned to Ischia each year for increasing further research. With his assistant , Violetta Gottini , and photographer Gaetano Di Scala climbed Epomeo, the highest mountain of the island (788 meters), from all sides, from the east, from the north, south to discover that Epomeo "was not a rock formed under the sea but it is a tuff formed on the mainland and that covered a vast area that goes right under the Vesuvius and under the sea to Campi Flegrei". One hundred thousand years ago Ischia was more extensive of its 46 Km2 and came up to Ventotene.
‘Ischia is certainly, for volcanologists, a paradise because you can see things that nowhere else on earth I could see and I shot a lot and here are some amazing things", said Rittmann in a communication to the Centre for Studies on the island of Ischia on August 26, 1969 .
Here Rittmann found the planet in an island , his "paradise" on Earth , and he appreciated the inhabitants of an extraordinary cordiality because in every cellar he encountered in his explorations of the ravines and quarries farmer that tore the ground for the rock to plant the vine, offered him a glass of wine and a loaf of bread.
We went to see "La Mortella", the garden built by Sir William and Lady Susana Walton in Forio at Zaro. On an area of about 3 hectares, torn from rock , William - for about twenty years and Susanna for about 50 years - have made an extraordinary wanting to leave a touching testimony of love. There are 4 thousand plants from all over the world in what that Susana called "a giant vase of flowers carved into the stream of lava and then split by the earthquake, a basin of hard trachyte filled with 20 feet of solid humus". The Garden as wanted the designer Russell Page is "an expression of faith, the embodiment of hope, a song of praise". Nothing is left to chance and everything is placed with a meaning that speaks in the silence of nature.
But we tried to understand why and how did this Garden? How and why this couple - an English musician and a cultured young Argentinean woman - arrived in Ischia in a winter's day in 1949 and decided to live here and build a garden and then leave it to their death to the enjoyment of all, especially young musicians, so that everyone could know the love of a man and a woman, appreciate the beauty of creation, reflect on what Cardinal Martini called " the wonder of life." Everything is born "by accident or chance" would Lelouche.
But we went - for this October issue with which our Magazine "Ischianews & Eventi" closes the tourist season and will resume with the parenthesis of the holiday season in December and January – to see also recovered, after 100 years of neglect, the "vineyard of the thousand years" of  lawyer Benedetto Migliaccio, his wife Giovanna and daughter Benedetta , in Serrara about 300 meters above sea level on the day of harvest and harvest the red grape from which the winemaker Andrea D' Ambra will release a fine wine.
We went down to sea level and between myth and peace seen and experienced Poseidon Thermal Gardens, one of the most beautiful spa parks of the world, with miraculous thermal water, hot sun of the month of October due to an exceptional microclimate .
We climbed the hills - almost to remind us of autumn - and went to explore the collection of mushrooms and chestnuts.
This and more is on ISCHIANEWS of October, however, which opens with a "Focus" on the problems of tourism policy with the conclusions of the conference organized by us on "Cohesion and Development in the island of Ischia" reflecting on the book by Carlo Borgomeo “ L’ equivoco del Sud”  and the messages of the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Carlo Trigilia and regional Councillor for Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Campania, Pasquale Sommese.
As if to say: we have a planet into an island of exceptional value and beauty in every detail that tourists from all over the world live and love and we all have a duty to defend it in while we're thinking about the economic and social development.

The curious answer to the question is various. There is a plethora of exciting works of art that tell about food. An example: I chose an original, a bit mysterious Flemish-Dutch painter of the ‘600s, Clara Peeters, of whom I photographed a beautiful “still life” on display at the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne.

2013 Ischia News Dicembre Copertina

It was Christmas of 1930. Two young Anglo-Saxon people belonging to the middle class, Geoffrey Bret - Harte, half American and half English, 35, and Mabel Kittredge Spencer, American, both in love with the “Bel Paese” with the pleasure of writing, they get married in Naples in May of the same year and had decided to spend a year on their honeymoon on the island of Ischia, then little known in the international tourist circuits. In fact they discovered Ischia from Capri. “That beautiful island on the other side of the bay, what you see from the Piazzetta and ending with a high mountain peak”, asked the concierge of the Grand Hotel Quisisana. “Oh, you mean Ischia, you do not want to go there! Nobody goes to Ischia. No hotels, no foreigners, no entertainment”, was the reply. But Geoffrey and “Kit”, as the husband called his wife, did not hear him. They began to hire a motor boat with sailors and did carry on Ischia where they spent a whole year before staying in a small hotel on the Harbour and then in a nice house in Punta Molino (and it is still and called “the Araucaria”, from the tropical tree with prickly green leaves) owned by Colonel Buonocuore (probably Buonocore ).
Of that past year in Ischia - from May 1930 to April 1931 - they retained the impressions and memories in a notebook for Geoffrey and a diary for Kit that seven years later they released a book “Island in the Sun” in London by Hodder and Stoughton.
For seventy-six years this book has been forgotten and was not translated into Italian. Then a Milanese half-blood, Gina Menegazzi, translated and published it.
Our service is on pages................ of Our Magazine (Gina and the sense of life).
In December when came the cold Geoffrey and Kit had the problem of heating the home. There was not a fireplace. They wanted to build it at their expense, but the old Colonel did not agree. He advised a “brazier”. The maid Dominica took it newlyweds.
“It was lovely to look at - they write - like a big copper ashtray, which was in fact, the center of which was filled with burning coals of charcoal, covered with ash to prevent it burned too quickly. It was not made for heating rooms with high ceilings, but if you lean on it, the wind did not form more icicles, though, the desire to warm up, they are likely to remain asphyxiated”. But there came also a stove to heat the house that was preparing for Christmas.
“Ischia with its passion for religious festivals devoted a great deal of attention. Christmas is really the “feast” more important before the Passover”, they write.
“In the kitchen occurred mysterious things... for weeks continued to come by relatives of our domestic and Giovangiuseppe Dominica parcels decorated with special Christmas labels.... But the turkey came from Naples brought by courier Enrico “the honesty personified” that also changed the checks to the bank of the city.
“We were aware that we had the good fortune to live in a corner of the world so beautiful”, they write. Christmas morning was “memorable”.
“Not only our family but all of our friends on the island helped to make it so. The gate bell rang continuously and small street urchins, who acted as messengers, brought us baskets of fruit baskets, flowers and wine... the live rabbits... a cake made by her grandmother... Embroidery for Kit. In the afternoon the Island was “sleepy” because the islanders were busy celebrating in their homes”, and so the newlyweds went to lie on the beach and then returned home for a “rich tea”.
“We were completely happy and at peace with the world”, they write.
Who spent Christmas more or less like this or perhaps thus twenty years after Geoffrey and Kit is prof. Pasquale Balestriere, writer and poet, in his village of Buonopane - the service is available in the pages..... of Our Magazine (the Christmas Village) and observes that if time passes traditions remain.
“The island of Geoffrey and Kit there is still”, Gina Menegazzi told us and it is true.
Today we have a full calendar of events from December 6, 2013 until January 12, 2014 (the full disclosure is in the pages of our magazine....... and can also be found on www.ischianews.com ), especially in the towns of Ischia and Forio those of Waldimiro Frenkel, a Russian refugee who wrote a nice guide of Ischia in 1934, called “the two capitals”.
The charm of ‘Island in the Sun’ remains unchanged and traditions transmitted alive, like a relay race, from generation to generation that the change in surface but not in substance.
Truman Capote said so in 1949. Here the clock is not needed. This is a timeless island.

Aprile-2014-Copertina-prezzo

With the first rays of spring sunshine and on the occasion of Easter we are pleased to inaugurate the 2014 season of the magazine Ischia News & Eventi, always in Italian -English bilingual version. This first issue of the fifth edition touches upon many different topics from Easter to the islanders as a tribute to the artistic character Giacinto Lavitrano.

The Passover told by two islands, Ischia and Procida. Ischia with the original sacred drama dedicated to the passion and death of Jesus, the representation was designed and built by St. Francesco from Assisi in the distant 1111 and staged in the streets of Forio since 1982 thanks to an initiative of a group of young volunteers; and Procida with its Mysteries, the Dead Christ parading in the procession of Good Friday is the very soul of Procida, the quintessential of the man’s personal and intimate pain.

How not to submit a hymn to the now late spring, with the warm scents of the earth, roots, grass, sea, buds that come together in a single essence and stimulate our imagination , memories , the desire to live in a dimension that is not chaotic and exhausting daily survival.

It does not even miss the character of the island culture which for this number is Giacinto Lavitrano, and re-propose the creations is a good tribute to his memory and his music for granted without giving the magnitude, or on the contrary, look at him with disdain, but finding good reasons to rediscover the original voice of a narrator of his time.

The inevitable tribute to the hot springs of Ischia, such as the nymphs of Nitrodi and the recent
discovery of the ancient mouths carved into the stone.

In this first issue we propose a new recipe section, ‘homemade’, where are the same islanders to offer unique dishes and tempting straight from the home.

Other new features include the section of the trails with detailed descriptions about the most beautiful and natural stretches of the fascinating green island!

Tradition and crafts, main features of the island community found in the clothes of Bettina with her artistic form of  “wearable art”.

Among the columns present, the wedding on the island with dream location to crown the love of couples who want to pronounce the fateful 'I do'.

Inevitable as always our rich calendar of events with so many important events to be entered on the agenda of islanders and tourists exploring the beautiful Ischia.

In short, a guide should not miss to have in your pocket all the useful information about Ischia ...as global concept!

In this issue stands the symbolic image of the flower, the common denominator of the topics that affect the month  of May full of colors and scents of spring. From the legendary white lilies that covered the boat of Santa Restituta coming from the sea to the exhibition of rare plants, Ipomea, to Negombo.

May for the islanders is therefore the month of Santa Restituta, the Saint come from the sea in a distant time according to an age-old legend passed down from generation to generation that witnesses the age of the populations of the island of Ischia, the first Greek colony of West dating back to the eighth century BC

Restituta led religiosity in populations of  island, every year remembering the important occasion in honor of the Saint on May 17.

Along with the important feast of the patron saint of Ischia resort also see the unique exhibition of Ipomea at the thermal park Negombo with its impressive collection of rare plants.

The image of the flower have been associated with many different eras in the concepts of whiteness and beauty, recalling that flowers are an integral part of the cultures of the four corners of the globe, unrivaled ambassadors of emotions.

The explosion of colors and scents of this time that envelops the land into one big warm hug, then transports us in the middle of spring and makes sure that our senses, from the dormant winter days, wakes up and enriches the wonders that "the green island" can offers. There is no better time of year to bring out the boots, dress comfortably, leave for a moment the coast and into the heart of Ischia, now in its second edition, the event "walking along trails" was created with the aim of bringing people (islanders or not) to the territory, a necessary condition in order to know, love, and then protect it.

But spring is also the season to be able to spend a day in a shower of the miraculous waters of Nitrodi. To embrace the entrance to the solarium, changing rooms, showers and therapeutic sessions for localized water jets, there is a garden risen five years ago thanks to the engineering nature. Visitors will enjoy the landscape perched and articulated terraces, redesigned with a path lined by aromatic plants, mostly Mediterranean, and from indications, such as the "flow of Youth", which promise to be on the right "road ".

Naturalistically speaking we cannot forget the Migliaccio Estate which extends between cliffs, quarries, canals, for 14 acres. It comes down to one lane from Serrara inaccessible once reserved for mules but now made by car driveway with powerful engines. The view that you see from the terrace of the house is indescribable in its beauty and in its immensity.

This estate produced one of the best red wines of the island in the "long century" so much so that in 1870 it received the Medal of Honour to national wine competition.

We conclude by mentioning the riding sporting event. On the occasion, Ischia stops time and as has already happened with the II stage of the Tour of Italy last spring, the streets only welcome cyclists and events that will enhance the value of sport outdoors.

Ischia News agosto 2015

We hear so many men and women say the phrase “In love with Ischia.” It may seem clichéd, even exaggerated. Who knows? However, the number of self-affirmed “Ischia Lovers” is much more than one could possibly imagine. The island is stunning, theres beauty with each new day and in every one of her beautiful locations, she has the ability to charm anyone who merely brushes past. Whether her beaches or the hillsides, one cannot help be intrigued by her ancient mysticism, its an aphrodisiacal dimension of her which connects with your senses and envelopes one with joy and nature.

It is available on the island of Ischia the July 2014 issue (4-year V) of the Magazine "Ischianews & Eventi"

The History of the island of Ischia is inextricably linked to its religiosity. This is an “old” island where the civilized man came from Greece since the eighth century BC and is no longer gone. Just as Christianity has arrived earlier than elsewhere. Restituta - the patron saint of the island - came from the sea brought by the sirocco wind on a boat from the shores of Tunisia since the fourth century after Christ. Since then she is worshiped in the temple of Lacco Ameno and all the houses of "ischioti" as Berkeley called them in the eighteenth century. The history is mixed with myth.

Even the Diocese of Ischia is one of the oldest in Italy although perhaps smaller. The first bishop was called Pietro, and the meager news about him dating back to the twelfth century. For centuries, the Church was for the "islanders", as they are called today, a "person of the family, which was necessary to provide like the others, his wife, his mother, his children", as said Bishop Pasquale Polito (1907 -1994).

On the island there are now seventy-nine places of Christian worship among churches, shrines and oratories rich in precious signs of devotion that the faithful have erected over the centuries so that journalist Ciro Cenatiempo called it the "island of miracles" because they are "temples of the spirit, set in environmental and cultural scenery absolutely unique".

It is a mix between “sacred and profane that helped to create the identity of Ischia”. Many churches and so many saints to which they are devoted to different communities of the island. Every small community has its church, its patron saint, and the feast in his honor. If the churches are just as many 79 or maybe more are the patronal feasts which represent the authentic ‘local color’.

July is the month of St. Anne, mother of Mary, the Mother par excellence that protects pregnant women. It is celebrated not only in Ischia Ponte - the ancient Borgo di Celsa - with the celebration on the sea, which is the most important festival in the summer of the island, which this year has many new features as we announce in this issue, but also in Lacco Ameno, Casamicciola and in the fraction of Fiaiano in Barano.

“The island of Anna” is the title of the July issue (4 - year V) of the Magazine “Ischianews & Eventi” magazine-guide of the “green island” in Italian and English directed by Enrico Deuringer with the collaboration of Giuseppe Mazzella and co-manager of the editorship by Tommaso Massimo Pilato.

For centuries, the births of children took place in the homes of women giving birth with the assistance only if there was, the “midwife” as it was called the midwife and then the cult of St. Anne was very strong everywhere. The infant mortality was very high in the families of farmers and fishermen, the populace of island. This worship has remained and has not been cleared by modernity.

The “miracle of life” remains locked in mystery attached to rocks to which the islanders have given the name of Anna in the most beautiful place on the island.

“Ischianews & Eventi” shows the final events of the twelfth edition of Ischiafilmfestival this year chaired by director Pupi Avati with screenings, exhibitions, conferences, which are held in the Aragonese Castle in the ancient village of Celsa from June 28 to July 5.

Events with the complete guide to restaurants and pizzerias, hotels of all places and of all classes, the beauty centers, the shops of typical products, services agencies, with the map of the typical products of the road and the wine and maritime timetable from Naples and Pozzuoli and public automotive service of the island.

Also are describes the most important monuments to be seen how the Aragonese Castle at Ischia Ponte, Villa Arbusto and the excavations of Santa Restituta in Lacco Ameno, in Forio La Mortella by William and Susana Walton, La Colombaia by Luchino Visconti and Giardini Ravino while for hiking lovers the trails are proposed to discover the hills leading up to Mount Epomeo, the island’s highest mountain with its 788 meters. And yet the wonderful “thermal parks”, “Poseidon Gardens”, “La Romantica”, “Aphrodite Apollon”, “Negombo”, “Castiglione” the “source of Nitrodi”, “Giardino Eden” and “O’Vagnitiello”.

"Ischianews & Events "has run in 10 thousand copies and distributed through 400 points of the island of Ischia in Italian and English.

In distribution on the island of Ischia the August 2014 issue (5-year) of the Magazine "Ischianews & events"

Many, many years ago came out on "Corriere della Sera" an article- short stories-of the third page of Nicholas Tucci (1908-1999). It was dedicated to the relationship between the islander and the island.

“The fidelity of islander to the island - wrote Tucciis not parochialism because it extends the trees, the rocks and the way in which they appear on the “enemy element” and that is the sea”. The observation is appropriate: that "no pride" of the attachment of the islander to the island; affection extended to the nature of the island, the trees and the rocks, and even in the way that overlook the sea called the “enemy element” express the nature of the island.

The islanders live on the sea and they cannot live far from the sea. From the sea, the islanders derive their livelihood but remember the sea is especially stormy, furious, threatening and even murderess. Maybe that’s why Tucci calls him “the enemy”..

In the sacristy of the church-museum-shrine of the patron saint of the island of Ischia, Restituta, in Lacco Ameno there are hundreds of votive thanks to the grace of sailors, fishermen, boat owners, who testify their gratitude and their faith to the Saint for having saved their lives in danger because of a storm at sea. It is also the testimony of at least two or three centuries of history.

The islanders - all the islanders of the world - have this unbreakable bond with the sea.

But in August, the sea becomes a “friend” and stretches to the sun and welcomes everyone of all ages to live the “good season”.

“The sea is the great metaphor of life and the man is “thalassic” that is he was born in the sea but is on loan to the earth and so always feels nostalgia for his place of origin”, said Professor. Edoardo Malagoli, a Lombard who settled in Ischia in the years 1950s, teaching Italian and history in High School, so affected "by enchantment of the sea" so much that he personally built his boats.

August is the month of ‘all go to the beach’ and Ischia offers all its sandy, rocky, spa charm with gardens, docks, tourists from all over the world in addition to its huge historical heritage of the oldest Greek colony of the West. From this year you can also admire the underwater city of Aenaria in the stretch of water at the rocks of St. Anne just overlooking the Aragonese Castle (the reportage is on page.....) with the signs of the Roman colonization.

The sea in August lives and it is also the opportunity for day trips by boat to the other islands of the Gulf of Naples and Gaeta because Ischia is the island-mother of “Neapolitan archipelago” that goes from Capri to Ponza. Just Ponza - the farthest island - was colonized by the islanders in the eighteenth century and in this issue we “romanticize” the journey of the first settler of 1734.

In this issue there are also recipes of the month with our recommended restaurants, typical products, beauty centers, the sights to see and the wonderful spa gardens and of course the full calendar of events is of “local color” as the feast of the Our Lady of the Assumption in Lacco Ameno and the parade of St. Alexander in costumes’ era, with both musical and cultural events.

This and more in the edition of August with our best wishes for a good and peaceful holiday with... Ischia in your pocket!

This is the focus of the number which, like all others, is in Italian and English and is pulled in 10,000 copies.

The pelican is a sea bird that feeds on fish. It has massive body, the plumage is black and white and has a long yellow beak with a bag of skin. It lives along the coast rich in fish of temperate seas. It is so named the boat of Domenico Barricelli, 55, a fisherman from Sant’Angelo of Ischia which can have a crew of six sailors.

It is the “Pellicano” which each year brings in procession to the sea on September 30, the statue of St. Michael the Archangel, the protector of Sant’ Angelo which is called so because of the cult to Angelo revered as protector and warrior driver represented with drawn sword on the dragon.

The cult of St. Michael the Archangel in Sant’Angelo is dated back as early as the fifteenth century. Domenico Barracelli with his “Pellicano” leads the procession to the sea at least 25 years and this “Pellicano” is the fifth since before there were four others.

The feast of St. Michael the Archangel in the sea closes the long cycle of religious festivals with processions to the sea that begin on May 17 with Santa Restituta in Lacco Ameno and go on for the whole summer of Ischia.

Among the celebrations of local color that one of St. Michael the Archangel is perhaps the most impressive. On September 29, there is the procession of the saint through the streets of the village which is lit by a thousand of oil cans placed on the seven reefs and on September 30 the procession to the sea with hundreds of boats with in the head the "Pelican" with San Michele. The procession reaches the top of the Punta Maronti and Punta Chiarito almost to bless the whole southern side of the island of Ischia that greets the sister islands of Capri and Ventotene each placed 18 miles from “the mother island”.
Then there is the spectacle of the midnight fireworks with the simulated fire tower to commemorate the bombing of the British in 1809.
At the feast of St. Michael attended by thousands of islanders and tourists every year with the same enthusiasm.

September is the sweetest month of year for Ischia. The days are shorter and cooler but nature is much more quiet. It is the month of spa treatments and those sun therapy and long walks on the hills and on the summit of St. Nicholas as the roads of the island of Ischia call with its 788 meters. The month of the discovery of the "island of the earth" and its age-old traditional viticulture with “Visiting wineries”, the great event in its seventh edition, which takes place on September 14 to 18 at the initiative of the Pro Loco Panza and to which we will dedicate a special issue.

September is also the month to find out the ins and loads of history of Borgo di Celsa and Forio especially where during the years 1950s have stayed Truman Capote and WH Auden writing short stories and poems sitting at the "Caffè Internazionale".

Ischia has changed compared to that seen and narrated by Capote and Auden with the great mass tourism but that romantic air is still and in September with the fiery sunsets viewed from the "church of the fishermen that juts out into the sea as the prow of a ship”, as Capote called the Church of Soccorso, that air becomes purer almost requires compliance of History and Geography of the places where many people of Contemporary Culture have passed, and where the churches preserve the memories of a centuries-old ancient island.

The ancient religious festivals begin on September 8 with the feast of Our Lady of Montevergine in the small hamlet of Succhivo but also in the village of Schiappone in Barano and then 12 with the feast of Santa Maria al Monte in Forio and again from 12 to 15, the feast of San Leonardo in Panza in the town of Forio.

On September 24 is a public holiday in Fontana, the highest center of the island place 452 meters above sea level, to the Madonna of Mercy and also in the district of Majo Casamicciola with Our Lady of Sorrows or Our Lady of Sorrows.

But September is also the month of the cultural and artistic events that take place mostly in the City of Ischia and Forio, the "two capitals" of the island posed to the East and West.
In this issue we try to introduce the sweet September of Ischia but also the recipes of the month with our recommended restaurants, local products, the beauty centers, the sights to see and the wonderful spa gardens with our best wishes for a peaceful holiday with good and Ischia ... in your pocket.

Perhaps what fascinates most of the island of Ischia is its story. Not the story of great or rich men “whose names are carved on the buildings”, as Michael Ondaatje, that also is interesting here, but the “common story” of whom the French call “le petit peuple” that is “lower classes”.
Mr. Benedetto Migliaccio, heir to an ancient family of Ischia, passionate historian and bibliographer, has recovered after 100 years of neglect his vineyard Jesca which is located in the municipality of Serrara-Fontana and extends for about 14 hectares. He has called the “vineyard of the thousand years” because it has a thousand years of history, having found the first document in the archive where in 1034 a notary archive the donation of the estate "Jesca" of Mellusi to the Benedictine monastery “for the redemption of soul”.
“Here are layered thousand years of history - he says - and the memories of the ancient illiterate peasants are entrusted to the terracing without parracine, because here there is no green stone as in Forio, the caves dug into the tuff and the same way to dig the earth since the quality of the soil and how to cultivate it make a difference to the quality of the grapes and therefore the wine”.
After 100 years of abandonment the estate Jesca with the D’ Ambra Vini by Andrea D’ Ambra has produced a magnificent red wine which is the “vine of the thousand years”, and this year there will be on Sunday, September 14th for the third time the “auteur vintage” that will transform for a day, lawyers, journalists, architects in short, men and women of pen and of chair into farmers as a tribute to the memory of those that Mr. Migliaccio called “heroes” because they were able to dominate nature that here is impervious but with an indescribable view it does take the visitor spellbound the island of Sant’ Angelo and the island of Capri in his arms, stopping the breath.
“The harvest is a feast for the vineyards return to a handful of heroes, the fruit of a commitment that knows no pause in the arc of year”, says Mr. Migliaccio.
Great archaeologist Amedeo Maturi (1886-1963) was enchanted by the Ischian vintage walking “along the trails that descend from the chestnut of Barano, Serrara and Buonopane to the hot sands of the navy of the Maronti to the jeweled charm of the promontory of S. Angelo” and on this ground upset, landslide, bibulous, such as pumice, dry as a bait, browned by the sun and sea wind, made warm by boiling underground, heat secret that will run in as the blood in the arteries, thrives sovereign the vine”.
“Wine is the ‘water of Ischia”, writes Norman Douglas (1868-1952) in his extraordinary book “Summer Islands”, telling of Ischia and recommending to taste “the wine of each degree of latitude of the island, from golden stream of a thousand barrels of Forio to the pale lily "ichor", divine nectar exuding from the grapes of the dwarf mountain”.
This island of grape there is still with its vineyards, cellars and all its typical production and one can see from September 14 to 18  with the event “Visiting wineries” organized by the Pro Loco Panza that we present in this special issue.
Not only we pay homage to an ancient civilization but present economic segment, on which the people of Ischia have lived for centuries, became modern with terrific wineries and integrated with all other segments of the tourism of Ischia from the beach to the spa, from the cultural one to that in open air for young people.
This ancient island is always renewed and asks all visitors to be loved and preserved with care and respect because life is not enough to know it all.

There was a question that intrigued me until some time ago: what is the color to match to October? The season is now the kingdom of autumn and, therefore, the rest of the life cycles. Maybe. Observing the insular nature, the wait declination of variations of brown, ocher and yellow leaves of vineyards and chestnut trees does not replace the shade of evergreen conifers, citrus orchards and gardens that depict the imagination.

sole ischia

When, in 1988, Charles Knight oversaw the reissue of “Summer islands” by Norman Douglas (it was published in 1931) wrote that in the long introduction was necessary to reread those old pages «obviously out of season, away from the crowds and alienating bustle. Maybe, if you drive along and slowly walk the trails on the slopes of Epomeo, you happen to catch some air voice of the past, the smell of scorched earth ... the sound of a hoe in the ground. Maybe you will make an exciting discovery».

It is the time of the autumn equinox on the island of Ischia. Ischia is the “climatic gem of Italy”, proved by prof. Cristofaro Mennella (1907-1976), climatologist and director of the Geophysical Observatory of Casamicciola and Chairman of the Centri Studi on the island of Ischia, in a very rare book published in 1958.
“Comparing with concrete data, the climate of the island of Ischia, both in absolute and relative terms, with one of the most celebrated places of the Peninsula, I came to the conclusion that the island of Ischia is a true gem in the shining crown of tourist and thermal and resorts”, he wrote.
There is a “happy coincidence” of many physical and landscape environments that make Ischia a “climatic gem”. September is the ideal month to live it all over, entirely, by sea and by land. It is the ideal time to discover the thermal parks, coastal inlets, confidentiality of beaches, under a summer sun. The summer here is long and lasts at least until the end of October.
In our September issue of “Ischianews & Eventi” we present this long summer especially from the land while in the August issue we focused on the sea. The September issue comes out twice with the supplement “Visiting wineries” with the story and the events of the great occurrence organized by Pro Loco Panza from September 15 to 18, and which is now in its sixth edition.
And the “heroic viticulture” of the peasants of Ischia – very ancient since Nestor’s cup of the eighth century BC - we have dedicated a report on D'Ambra Vini d' Ischia, the oldest winery of the island which this year celebrates 125 years and - for a right movement of the circumstances - has won this year the “tre bicchieri” of the “Gambero Rosso”, the most important magazine of the Italian wine industry, with its best wine, “Biancolella -Tenuta Frassitelli”.
But in the air of September with the story of all the religious festivals of the island we spent another service with particular attention to the feast of Santa Maria al Monte , on September 12 in the small church at 400 meters above sea level and that is for the islanders a “second Easter Monday” also lived with joy by hundreds of tourists and to that of St. Michael the Archangel in the village of Sant'Angelo which concludes at the end of the month, on Monday, Sept. 30 , with the evocative procession by sea.
We also present the rich calendar of events with its prestigious concerts by Fondazione William e Susana Walton at Giardini La Mortella and the beautiful cultural event “il contastorie” from September 12 to 22 with as the main host great actor Giorgio Albertazzi. Space also to local crafts with a story about the ancient art of packing wicker baskets and also a look at our history with the story of the tragedy of 70 years ago, on September 8, 1943, just when it was signed the armistice, it was bombed, perhaps by mistake, by a British airplane the town of Forio causing 43 deaths, all of them civilians including children and the elderly. But we do not forget the sea and its “institutional” problems and host a discussion on how to improve the Marine Protected Area that has become a resource for the islands of Ischia and Procida and not another attempt to administrative reorganization. As for the August issue also the September one contains the map with the paths of wine and typical products and reports the Marine Protected Area with the schedules of the maritime connections from the mainland to the island of Ischia and vice versa. And yet “Ischianews & Eventi” presence par excellence of the island of accommodation, catering services, with an indication of the places of interest worth seeing and the ‘chefs recipes’ to turn every tourist in chef who is inside each of us lover of good wine and good food.
Finally the bus timetables of public service run by the EAV bus, owned by the Region of Campania, and which are joined in drafting numerous phone calls of protest for problems. The terrestrial public transport is a must to improve the quality of our tourism.
This and much more, such as the discovery of Ravino Gardens and those of Aphrodite and still the park of the Nymphs Nitrodi on “Ischianews & Eveni” of September with the hope to live well this long summer.

Copertina-agosto-2013

How can it be lived and enjoyed the island of Ischia from the sea in this hot month of August when the Sun enters the Leo constellation for the classic period said Solleone? How to fully enjoy the charm of the sea? Where to go for the longest days of the year, choosing which beach resorts or spa parks, such as lunch or dinner in restaurants and choosing what to eat? Where to stay in the numerous and equipped hotels on the island? What to see, in moments of reflection, on this ancient island where civilized man has come since the eighth century BC and never went away? What to buy as a souvenir of an unforgettable holiday in art workshops both the ceramic or cosmetics or in the cellars where it gets one of the best wines in the world and August is the month of "Biancolella"? How to move around this island of 46 km2 that appears small but it is not, from one end to the other and use public transport that are never quite efficient? Finally the events: there are cultural interests. Ranging from Midsummer fires in the summer with the Assumption in Lacco Ameno to the manifestations of jazz and the nights of Negombo Night.

All this and more is explained in the issue of August / September 2013 of the Magazine "Ischianews & Events" directed by Enrico Deuringer with the co-manager Giuseppe Mazzella and the editorship of Tommaso Massimo Pilato. 95 pages in pocket format in Italian and English - the international language which is the official language of the European Union - is presented to the Italian and foreign tourist an island to love. The syllogism chosen for the cover headline - "Ischia d'A ... mare!" (Ischia to love) - is significant because it wants to invite the tourist to experience the island from the sea but ... also to love it. In English, in no uncertain terms, the imperative is categorical: “Ischia to love”.
The sea is the great metaphor for life, said a Lombard intellectual who was teacher for generations of high school students in Ischia, prof. Edoardo Malagoli (1928-2001), who taught Latin and history but also knew how to build boats called the "Rikki Tikki - Tavi" as the mongoose in Kipling's tales of the Jungle that wins its unequal struggle with the cobra snake as saying that the small boat was able to keep up with the more furious seas.
We went to interview the "diver-journalist" Franco Savastano that today is 78 years and fell down to the most interesting seas of the world to gather his emotions to 40 meters under the sea. What
happens down there? How is the living world with flora and fauna under the sea in Ischia?
We chose a beach for our summer, Maronti, the longest beach on the island with its three miles and we felt like Count Giorgio Corafà, General of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in the eighteenth century who built a road of 365 steps down from the district of Testaccio to Maronti. We can do that today much more comfortably with the driveway and we can use all the facilities of the consortium of operators. Sign of the times and Tourism for everyone.

We interview the minister of tourism of the Campania Region, Pasquale Sommese, which testifies the commitment of the region to consolidate the tourism economy of the most important areas of Campania and we try to tell our emotions seeing the sea from Ischia in our tour.
We present our topographical map of the roads of wine and typical products of the marine protected area of "Regno di Nettuno" to present in a nutshell the extraordinary peculiarity of the island of Ischia, which is "land" and "sea" to live , to enjoy but also to safeguard.
Finally, and it seems the most important, we have an invitation to ASL Napoli2Nord indicates that while the health services offered to tourists with all the contact details for emergencies, hopes "a summer of health" to all. An admonition to live the “sea, spa treatments, outdoor living and entertainment in a responsible manner”.
“Do not send on vacation common sense. Enjoy a summer really carefree, live a summer of health”.
Happy holidays to all!!

Ischia News ed Eventi June Magazine is available in Italian and English for the tourist island of Ischia.

Even Giulio Jasolino (1549-1639) remarked, Calabrian doctor at the court of Naples in his seminal text “De Rimedi naturali” that are now known on the island of Ischia Pithecusa describing the populations of the island: in Barano people amuse greatly to dance”. He was referring to the “Ndrezzata”, the ancient dance of Greek origin, which is kept in Buonopane, a small village in the municipality of Barano located about three hundred meters above sea level.

The impressive mosaic ceramic - twenty meters long by artist Nello Di Leva - dominates the square of San Giovanni Battista in Buonopane. The ceramic mosaic was placed in 2011 on the initiative of the municipal administration headed by Mayor Paolino Buono with meaningful images and tells the old story of Barano and above depicts the “Ndrezzata”, the oldest island dance whose origins are still shrouded in mystery and are lost in the mists of time because it is impossible to find an explanation to the “preach of the corporal”, which you can read on the mosaic.

“The preaching of Corporal” is the original story narrated by the ringleader to explain this dance of love and war which involves eighteen dancers "weavers", four players, two clarinets and two drums that give rhythm. This traditional band is reserved only for citizens of Buonopane who participate in transmitting the art and privilege from father to son, from generation to generation for centuries.
To the “Ndrezzata”, who performs Tuesday, June 24 to the end of the festivities in honor of St. John the Baptist in the square of Buonopane at 23 is dedicated the service of the opening of the June issue of the Magazine “Ischianews & Events” directed by Enrico Deuringer with the co-manager of Giuseppe Mazzella and the editorship of Tommaso Massimo Pilato.
With ‘Dance and memory’. And the story of the legend and history of San Vito Patron of Forio whose celebrations are held June 14 to 17.

There is also space at the Ischia International Journalism Award now in its 35th edition at the Grand Hotel Regina Isabella in Lacco Ameno on June 27.

Ischianews-luglio-2013

Is yet to discover the island of Ischia? Certainly yes! It is an “ancient island” for its “living history” although the civilized man has come since the eighth century BC and is no longer gone. So that the story on the island, its peculiarities, its traditions, never end. There is always something to discover for those who will come there every year and for those who live there or seeing it for the first time. The feast on the sea at the rocks of Sant’ Anna in Ischia Ponte or Village of Celsa is held for 80 years and has become the most important festival of the summer and for several years is the center of controversy for having lost the initial spontaneity, the roots of its success, and turned into a “Prize among the municipalities” not just the six ones of Ischia but also Procida and the two ones of Capri.

Moreover the innovation has proved a failure, and so the feast threatens even to disappear. We went to see the birthplace of the feast of St. Anna “discovering” the village of Pescatori in the location of “Mandra” a few meters of the road from Village of Celsa and near the sea. We talked to the last fishermen, given the small church of San Giovan Giuseppe or rather the “Madonna-Child” where Mary is celebrated three times a year, after hearing the story of a protagonist of the construction of the “Great Boats” of St. Anna in the '70s when the whole village of Mandra took part in the construction of the boat that “always won the competition”. But the feasts on the “ancient island” are tied to the religiosity of the islanders. They are held in each district or part of each of the six municipalities. So one has to go to Serrara, about 400 meters from the sea level, to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Carmelo and then comes back to Casamicciola, a few meters above the sea level, for the feast of St. Mary Magdalene.
But besides the religious events, there is a rich calendar in cultural events, starting with the Ischia Prize for Architecture, on this month of July, which will have its so-called “dog days” in the second half of the month when the sun enters the constellation of Canis Major . For fans of the film there is a full calendar of the Ischia Global Festival. It is time of sea and water parks and on this issue we present the “magic of Vagnitiello”. We talk about ceramic art of Franco Calise and cinema by Leonardo Di Costanzo and still go to the “discover” the Alum path among the hills of Saint Nicola, such as Ischian people call Mount Epomeo. But our “discoveries” continue in the “books of the Queen” that is the guest books of the grand hotel Regina Isabella where has passed in more than 50 years half the world of the nobility and the bourgeoisie. But ours are only “little discoveries”.
The tourist will be free to discover it with our map that from this issue has been extended with the instructions of the “Regno di Nettuno” for the marine protected area especially for lovers of yachting. Visit the ‘Neptune’s Kingdom’ means to immerse themselves in one of the most fascinating environment of the Mediterranean Sea.

May, an explosion of colours, red, lilac, yellow, green, blue, paint the gentle slopes of Mount Epomeo, and the hills overlooking the sea. It’s the ideal time for hiking, Our editorial staff offers you the path of Pelara in Panza in the town of Forio, a visit to the Negombo Thermal park and Ipomea Butterflay house, with a dip in the warm and healing thermal waters of the many parks on the island. Tradition and craftsmanship, characteristic elements of our community, we find them in the secular celebration of Santa Restituta in Lacco, in the clothes of Bettina and the fragrance of bread cooked on a wood fire. The sea is a key resource for the revival of tourism, more than 500 young people flock to the town of Lacco from May 17 to 20 for the Regatta ESCP Europe, and many others are the events that will accompany us throughout the month, the feast of slow food on May 30 in Forio, and embrace Europe on May 12.

The newspaper goes on his way, in its third year of life, with a great desire to tell, tourists and lovers of the island, the beauty that surrounds us, not to mention, some criticism where necessary, contributing to the growth and development of the healthy and beautiful side of our beautiful Island!!

In June is due a pause for reflection of our Director, about the island and its context and inhabitants and then returns to tell about territory and the cultural richness of its people. In this month the tradition is expressed with the Classic Feast of St. Vito and the popular Festival of Ndrezzata on the occasion of St. Giovanni celebration in Buonopane. We tell about territory with a focus on the millstones of the island of Ischia and in particular those of Falanga on Epomeo Mountain, spirulina, designed by the University Federico II will be the mistress of the new cosmetic line of the Thermal Park Castiglione. Children in kindergarten of Forio amaze us with their performances on the legend of the giant Typhon, which supports the island on his shoulders. The culture and show play an important role on the island later this month with the Ischia Prize for Journalism now known, while the school of cinema offers us moments of reflection and study at the library of Ischia. And then a novelty for Our reader, a timid approach to the island By Night, with great advices for young and old people who like to have fun and enjoy the wonders of this our land night and day.

TMany events of September worthy of attention, in addition to this well-told by Mazzella, Gianluca tells us of a now classic event in September Ischia, 'Pe Terre Assaje luntane, in Ischia from the 14 to 16 of September and island with view, a walk along the most beautiful views of the island. Very interesting always the classic and traditional celebrations of San Giovan Giuseppe, Santa Maria al Monte and San Michele Arcangelo, the award-winning bookshop Mattera, the vintage, the source of the Nymphs Nitrodi and the famous Giardini Poseidon.

2012 Ischia News August Cover

The issue of Ischia News e Eventi edition August 2012 magazine for tourist information on the island of Ischia.

Everything comes from water, is from the wealth of this priceless natural element that comes life. Ischia has just so much water, it flows in abundance from the soil, warm and rich in minerals that gives this land lush vegetation and unique therapeutic properties. The water surrounds the coast to 51.2 km, land and sea are born from the marriage of fine sandy beaches, secluded bays surrounded by cliffs overlooking the sea, reachable only by sea, unique color contrasts ranging from green to turquoise sea. A such paradise must be first of all protected from attacks of man, and then lived in all its beauty. It is no coincidence that a holiday in Ischia can last a month living each day unique emotions!

On a similar stage moving men, in harmony with nature, helping to enrich what Nature has given us. It is the spirit of this land through its best men we want to tell every month, guided our reader to the paths that lead to the summit of Mount Epomeo, thermal parks of Vagnitiello and Eden and the estate of St. Giuseppe, the Ravino Gardens, up to the distant but near Ponza, our beloved cousin, not neglecting the classical tradition with the feast of St. Alexander and sport club of Panza. For three years we tell the island, but we can go on forever. The newspaper goes on its way, we strive to be better on our Territory, on the cover of this month the nave rock, cleverly incorporated in the shots of our fond Photographer Enzo Rando, one of the best landscape photographers that the island has ever had, not to mention the significant contribution of our entire editing and of Our and loyal writers to whom we send our ever deepening gratitude for this wonderful product.

2012 Ischia News October Cover

This month the cover is no coincidence that moves away from the sea, depicting the least known but most loved area of the island of Ischia, the one that makes the difference compared to our more famous neighbor island, Capri, allowing us to work on more varied tourist offer, to differentiate from the market and keep the tourists on the island for at least a week. These elements should not be overlooked, even re-evaluated and supported, such as the continuous pooling of Gennaro Di Meglio, who carries on a centuries-old tradition, characteristic and unique for the entire island, imagination, tenacity and simplicity of Salvatore Di Meglio, that with His hands created a cellar dug into the rock, creating with everyday objects the ‘Casa Museo’. Unique locations, such as the archaeological excavations of Santa Restituta, who are now in the light thanks to the passion and tenacity of Don Pietro Monti, who Christine Dussot quotes in a letter from Paris, came in response to the strong and constant re-evaluation of the initiative of the Pio Monte della Misericordia, promoted and followed by Giuseppe Mazzella, “Rebuilding, renovating, modernizing, it is undoubtedly important for tourism but above all we must preserve”! Build our future on the rich past remembering, the noble guests that have been able to appreciate and love our island as Henry Ibsen, and the great masters of cinema that have immortalized places and moments to remember and renew in time.

We are approaching the conclusion of 2012 season and the third year of the newspaper that continues its journey with Our loyal readers and we will meet again in December when we will tell you of an island that closes in the basement, the main place of cultural exchange. On the cover of this month there are beautiful goats immortalized at the Casa Museo of Fontana, in the capable hands of our fond Photographer Enzo Rando, one of the best landscape photographers that the island has ever had. And finally, due thanks to Our entire editorial staff and our manager and Our loyal staff, for the remarkable work with pleasure and commitment to the support of a Beloved land!

June, between history and imagination, a period that encloses Our time and helps us to project ourselves into the future by analyzing the past. Our time is the result of past choices, instead the future is in our hands, and together we can make the right decisions that will lead us toward a best future. The island of Ischia at the time of the Grand Tour, helps us remember the lost beauties, to re-appreciate the simple things, but not with nostalgia, even being full of strength and determination, optimism and clarity. The belle époque is a magical time for the island of Ischia, but mainly for Casamicciola, the spa town par excellence at the end of 900, which today is struggling due to lack of investment on land and the escape of local entrepreneurs. The cinema helps us to fantasize and imagine a best future making Ischia a tourist pearl in the '60s, the magic lives in auteur films with many scenes and unique places, but principally in the atmosphere that should be reported the everyday life of this enchanted land.

This year, our newspaper has a circulation throughout the country, with the inclusion of a new section on hospitality on the island of Ischia, corresponding to the section Welcome to Ischia on ischia.it, the newspaper is distributed in a total of more than 250 points on the island of Ischia, an achievement that fills us with pride and satisfaction, and that rewards the great work done by the entire editorial staff and contributors involved in our great project of communication and spread of the beauties of the island of Ischia. Thanks to the skill and mastery of Enzo Rando, Our official photographer for more than four years, every month we can get a picture on the cover of Ischia that strikes us, surprises, fascinates and intrigues, this month a magnificent view of Mount Epomeo above the town of Barano, with Capri and the Soerrentina Coast as background. This month is the time of the debut of a first insert to the newspaper, a map A3 to remove and use to move around the island of Ischia, going to meet the needs of tourists who move with difficulty on a territory so vast and full of treasures!

2013 ischianews maggio copertina

The Giro d’Italia, an experience that will change the island of Ischia! Ischia back an island on a human scale, this is our hope for the future. For one day we have returned back fifty years and we have loved the tranquility and beauty of this land, a small pause for reflection, which will be positive impetus to initiatives for a future that will support the quality of life of citizens and tourists.

The man suffers the environment that surrounds him and is molded, the sounds, the smells, landscapes influence us in a positive or negative way. It is for this reason that we, Ischia News, support the beautiful, in its artistic expression, but also in its most basic form and complex nature. With concrete initiatives as well as to live it, we tell you all about pleasure of traditions, outdoor walks, the flavors of the earth and work of human hands.
We started out with the kids, with a wonderful initiative, a campaign that we call “Love tit to recount” held a few days ago in the pine forest Mirtina of Ischia, and will continue every month with interesting paths that will lead us to reflect on who we are and to learn more about the environment we live in!

This and much more will be on this new issue of Ischia News, the first of the 2013 season, with a beautiful cover by Enzo Rando, that in a click encloses the symbol and the rebirth of the island of Ischia. A wish for our loyal readers and for all the staff that supports us.

The season now flies on the fresh air, jumping with joy and exultation. In this month full of events and festivals that teems with a magnetizing and soft power, it would take days and long nights to enjoy all appointments scheduled, perhaps using special virtues of superheroes: the speed of light and infinite slowness; an elastic body and teleportation; the absolute desire of pure fun. The truth is that the Ischian pleasure has the doors wide open and someone threw away the keys: do not be anxious to find them, let go, using the magazine as our compass.

copertina Aprile 2016 ischia

In our personal “bowl” of memory there are millions of beautiful images. They are there, suspended, a little overwhelmed by everyday life that commits us without stopping. Then, sometimes, they emerge. The fact is repeated more frequently when there is major stress, as occurs during scanning of big events, festivals and seasons with their wealth of rituals and experiences that we would like to repeat appealing to the past. When leaving the field to pleasant memories we free the crack in the door enthusiasm.

We asked those who love Ischia with our passion to sign, between words and images, the stories in this issue, marked by the calendar. Gian Paolo Porreca, fine writer with a love for cycling and for the views of Maronti and Mount Epomeo, gives us a wonderful tour through time and places to introduce us to GranFondo.
