Ipomea by Negombo 2017

On May 26th, 27th and 28th 2017, sponsored by Lacco Ameno, the 15th edition of Ipomea will take place, the fair of rare and unusual hot-tempered plants.

The opening is Friday, May 26, from 3 pm to 8.30 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm. It will take place in the Hydrothermal Botanical Park of Negombo. On May 28, at 4:30 pm, the program extends the possibility of conversing with landscape painters such as Ermanno Casasco and Patrizia Pozzi or assisting the work of the two illustrators, Simo Capecchi and Alessandro Rak, who will simultaneously perform a graphic reportage describing the most curious plants, telling about cultivation, uses and anecdotes, drawing in front of the public. Ipomea wants to be an affirmation of the culture and sense of the place through the world of plants, essences and natural products. The exhibition will be associated with the Butterfly Museum “Lepidoptera”, which can be visited from May 18 to July 31, and for the entire month of September. A longer period in order to turn it into a semi-permanent attraction on Ischia Island.

Fair of rare and unusual hot-tempered plants
Ancient fruits, rare and exotic plants meet with olive and citrus fruits. The aromatic plants open to odors and the fruits meet citrus fruits. A garden of delights, in which meet the art of the landscape of Ermanno Casasco and that one in the garden with works by Arnaldo Pomodoro of Lucio del Pezzo, Laura Panno, Gianfranco Pardi and Giuseppe Maraniello. Everything in the picturesque bay of San Montano.

There will be an area dedicated to butterflies and one dedicated to moths, “night butterflies”, commonplace that paints them as “unattractive” and “colorless”. Like the wonderful Urania riphaeus, also called “Rainbow Moth” on whose wings you can observe the full spectrum of colors. It will be interesting to admire the specimens of the Brameid family, the Sphinx or Saturnid family. Among the Brameids, it is worth mentioning the Acanthobrahmaea europaea, called “Brahmaea del Vulture”, a moth discovered for a few decades in the Monticchio Lakes area, a true “living fossil”. Among the Sphinxes, the Acherontia atropos, the “Sphinx of the Dead”, is on a chest, drawing a detailed reproduction of a human skull, protagonist of legends, tales (EA Poe’s Sphinx), poems (Montale, Gozzano) and also film (“The Silence of the Innocents”). Still the big Asiatic “falenecobra”: from the huge Attacus caesar to the less common Coscinocera hercules, whose male possesses two long and massive caudal appendages. Alternatively, the moths, then, of the kind Actias and Argema or Argema mittrei of Madagascar, called “the longest moth in the world” (about 30 cm). To close the show a couple of Moths of Queen Isabella, the Graellsia Isabellae, the most beautiful European moth and one of the rarest.
